Brian Stann Impresses With TKO Win At UFC 130 thumbnail

Former WEC Light Heavyweight champion Brian Stann was off to a shaky start at the UFC when he went 2-2 at light heavyweight. Since deciding to move down to middleweight, the former captain of the US Marines has strung up three straight victories including a recent technical knockout win on Saturday at UFC 130 held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Stann knocked down former Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago once in each of the first and second rounds before the referee called for a fight stoppage. The TKO victory follows a submission win over Mike Massenzio in his middleweight debut and a TKO win against Chris Leben.

Stann utilized a mix of low kicks and punches at different angles to keep Santiago from successfully taking him down. Santiago was knocked down by a left hook from Stann. Stann followed up with repeated strikes on a grounded Santiago. The Brazilian fighter managed to survive the first round but he was clearly stunned.

Santiago also felt the effects of the hard leg kicks in the first round. Stann also ate some punches from Santiago but the American hero showed that he has the chin to take clean shots. A counter right hook by Stann dropped Santiago late in the second round. By then it was obvious that Santiago could no longer recover when he could not defend against repeated strikes by Stann.

The fight between Stann and Santiago earned Fight of the Night honors.
