Dani Pedrosa Wins Portuguese MotoGP thumbnail

Dani Pedrosa finally ended Jorge Lorenzo’s 100 per cent record at Estoril with a victory which closed the gap at the top of the MotoGP standings.

Pedrosa, who underwent shoulder surgery less than a month ago, swept past pole-setter Lorenzo with four laps to go for his debut win in
Estoril and his first of the season.

To become a champion, Pedrosa had to work hard, because during the races, Lorenzo has always been in the first position. Pedrosa started the race at Estoril at the third grid, and he continues behind Lorenzo throughout the race. However, four laps before the race ends, the riders from Spainn managed to overtake and become the leader of the race. Pedrosa was able to maintain his position until the race ended and become the champions in this third series in Estoril.

Lorenzo now leads the championship by just four points from Pedrosa, with Stoner 20 points further back in third.

“The race was very tough, Jorge had amazing pace all the time. But at the end I was there with him and I didn’t want to be second again.

“I’m in a lot of pain now but I just want to thank all the doctors who have helped me to be here.”

Lorenzo, 23, said: “I didn’t let him pass, he was just a little bit faster. He was behind me all the race and maybe I was more tired physically because I was pushing and pushing and he was just following me.

“He deserved the win, the important thing was to finish the race and get some points for the championship.”
