Expect a lot of surfers and surf watchers to flood the north and west shores of Oahu and Maui, this Monday morning for a big waves that maybe the biggest in 40 years. This is the 25th anniversary of Eddie Aikau Big Wave International at Waimea Bay.

Surfers pored over maps, charts and weather information Sunday after waves were forecast to reach heights of 30 to 40 feet Monday — and possibly 50 feet in the outer reefs around the north andwest shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai.

Sunday, Maui County officials moved the lifeguard tower at Baldwin Beach in Paia farther inland to protect it from wave damage and prepared for exceptionally highsurf Monday.
