Fedor, Hendo Face Off At Heavyweight In Strikeforce Event thumbnail

Two mixed martial arts legends outside of the UFC are headlining a Strikeforce event on July 30 at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Once considered the best pound-for-pound mixed martial arts fighter Fedor Emelianenko and current Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson are slated to meet in a heavyweight bout at Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs Henderson.

Fedor is coming off losses to jiu-jitsu ace Fabricio Werdum in June 2010 and to giant Antonio Silva at the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix in February of this year. Another loss could mean considering retirement for the Russian fighter.

Hendo on the other hand has just won the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight title against Rafael Cavalcante via TKO in February. At 40, Henderson seeks to score another significant win to cement his legacy while Emelianenko seeks to remain significant in the sport that has catapulted him to global popularity.

Henderson does not have the size advantage that Silva had and he has not been known to be a submission expert. The former two-division PRIDE champion relies more on his one-punch knockout power and strong wrestling background. Emelianenko on the other hand has superior submission skills on top of a knockout punch.

It would be an interesting matchup for both fighters. While UFC has not been able to land a deal with Fedor, Henderson would be a good gauge if the Last Emperor is still at the top of the mixed martial arts rankings.
