Little Caesars Pizza Bowl: Florida International vs Toledo Live Coverage - It will be an exciting match to watch out for today as the Little Caesar Pizza Bowl will happen in just a short while. The finals will feature the Florida International Golden Panthers vs Toledo Rockets, which will be held live in Ford Field, Detroit, MI and will start at exactly 8:30 pm ET, Sunday, December 26, 2010.

Apparently, Toledo (8-4) appeared in this bowl — formerly the Motor City Bowl — three times in the last decade, but has not played in any postseason game since a 45-13 victory over UTEP in the 2005 GMAC Bowl.

Meanwhile, The Golden Panthers hit their stride down the stretch, averaging 38.0 points while winning four of their final five games. Their offense leans heavily on a pair of running backs, junior Darriet Perry (707 yards and 14 TDs in 2010) and sophomore Darrian Mallary (669 yards, two TDs). Quarterback Wesley Carroll, a transfer who played two years at Mississippi State, completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 2,483 yards with 15 TDs and 13 interceptions.

Leading FIU is T.Y. Hilton, who had 56 receptions for the season and was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the year. He is joined by teammate Darriet Perry, who earned FIU’s record for touchdowns rushing in a season.

Carroll will need to be careful against Toledo’s opportunistic defense. The Rockets forced 33 turnovers in 2010, tied with Hawaii for the most in the nation. However, if an offense holds onto the ball it can solve Toledo. The Rockets allowed an average of 45.8 points in their four losses, and were

On the other hand, the road team won both previous meetings between these schools. The Rockets prevailed 41-31 last season, repaying the Golden Panthers (6-6) for a 35-16 defeat in 2008.

FIU (6-6, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference) will be making its first-ever bowl appearance. Golden Panthers wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is, like Page, a multiple threat. He was voted the Sun Belt player of the year, recording 816 receiving yards, 278 rushing yards and 659 kick-return yards. He reached the end zone nine times.

The last time FIU faced Toledo, the Rockets took home the win, 41-31, in 2009. Toledo hopes for similar results tonight. Leading the Rockets is wide receiver Eric Page, whose 94 catches places him 5th in the nation. “Playing in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl is a great reward for our players, especially the seniors, who have worked very hard this season and are deserving of a bowl of this stature and reputation,” said Toledo’s coach, Eric Beckman.

GAME RESULTS:

The officials ruled Hilton reached the marker before stepping out of bounds, giving FIU an improbable conversion on fourth-and-17. Moments later, Jack Griffin’s 34-yard field goal as time ran out gave the Golden Panthers a delirious 34-32 victory Sunday night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
