NASCAR 2011 Schedule: NASCAR 2011 Camping World Truck Series, Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series Schedule- To all the fans out there, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series live at the Darlington Raceway kick off this afternoon. The NASCAR Darlington Raceway is a race track built for NASCAR 2011 racing located near Darlington, South Carolina. It is nicknamed the “Lady in Black” and “The Track Too Tough to Tame” by many NASCAR fans and drivers and advertised as “A NASCAR Tradition”.
Apparently, this NASCAR Series is of a unique, somewhat egg-shaped design, an oval with the ends of very different configurations, a condition which supposedly arose from the proximity of one end of the track to a minnow pond the owner refused to relocate. This situation makes it very challenging for the crews to set up their cars’ handling in a way that will be effective at both ends.
One catapulted from relative obscurity to national prominence, shocking and captivating the nation by winning the Daytona 500. Another entered NASCAR under a microscope and amidst much fanfare, but rose above her celebrity to etch her name in the record books last week at Las Vegas. Trevor Bayne and Danica Patrick made history in the 2011 NASCAR season’s opening weeks, Bayne by becoming the youngest driver to win on NASCAR’s biggest stage, and Patrick by scoring the highest finish by a female in NASCAR history.
Focus now shifts to Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway (5 p.m. ET live on SPEED™; NCWTS Setup with Krista Voda at 4:30 p.m. ET) and who could join the aforementioned NASCAR newcomers in the “breakthrough” conversation.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has the spotlight all to itself this weekend. And the series is making the most of it, racing at The Track Too Tough to Tame, Darlington Raceway, on Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Sprint Cup star Kahne will join defending Darlington winner Todd Bodine, four-time series champ Ron Hornaday and rookie of the year Austin Dillon as well as former Cup standout Elliott Sadler.
Carmichael is 13th in points with one top-10 finish after two starts. The Turner Motorsports driver impressed many people in 2010, his first full season in the Truck Series, by finishing 13th in points and notching nine top-10 finishes. However, Darlington wasn’t so kind to Carmichael last year with an accident and ensuing 24th-place finish, but the AMA legend has shown vast improvement on repeat visits to several tracks and certainly belongs in the first-time winner chatter.
TJ Bell on Darlington Raceway: “I’m ready to get back to Darlington after the race we had last year,” Bell explained. “MAKE gave me a great truck and I was able to steadily drive to the front with no issues. Unfortunately our hopes for a top-ten finish were dashed when the tire cut down and Pinnacle Mulch Chevy got its ‘Darlington Stripe’, but I’m confident we’ll have another great truck and setup ready for battle this weekend.”
Kahne could’ve done what most of his Cup competitors will do after Las Vegas last week and sit back before cranking up their machines at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 20. Instead, Kahne will try for his second Camping World Truck Series victory at Darlington in as many starts.
“I mean, the season just started and we just came off a long break,” Kahne said. “I’m not ready to stop racing and this is just good timing.”
Kahne, who’ll drive Saturday night for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Too Tough To Tame 200, won at Darlington in his truck debut in 2004. He followed that up a week later with another truck victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kahne returned to the truck series last July at Pocono and led 17 of 55 laps before finishing second to Elliott Sadler.
Many in the garage area are betting on Turner Motorsports, which captured its first NASCAR win at Las Vegas in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with Mark Martin. The organization, in its sophomore season of NASCAR competition, has logged one win, one pole position, 16 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes among its three NCWTS and four NNS entries.
Truck Series drivers take to the track at 9 a.m. Saturday morning for their first of two practice sessions. Final practice begins at 10:30 a.m. A Truck Series autograph session is scheduled from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. for those who are heading to Darlington Raceway. Qualifying for the Too Tough to Tame 200 begins at 3:15 p.m. with the race live on SPEED at 5:00 p.m.
