Talladega Superspeedway: Talladega NASCAR 2011 Superspeedway and NASCAR  Sprint Cup Starting Line Up Qualifying Results at Talladega – The Talladega Speedway is home to NASCAR’s Aaron 499 race in Alabama. Earlier, millions of NASCAR fans are in doubt about the weather conditions that may hinder the NASCAR race at Talladega in Alabama. However, the NASCAR Aaron’s 499 pushed through and a winner has been declared already and it was Jimmy Johnson.

NASCAR Talladega Speedway Winners and Results : When NASCAR comes to Talladega, there’s always a sense of dread, a fear that something ominous is about to happen. But this year, there was a sense of dread that absolutely nothing of note would happen, save the two-by-two racing that infuriates more NASCAR fans than the suggestion that racing is nothing more than drivin’ fast and turnin’ left.

At the end of 188 laps and 500 miles, Jimmie Johnson won Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 by inches, tying a record with his razor-thin .002-second margin of victory.

With a push from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr., Johnson edged Clint Bowyer in a wild four-wide finish at the 2.66-mile track. The victory was Johnson’s first of the season, his second at Talladega and the 54th of his Sprint Cup career, tying him with 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Lee Petty for ninth on the all-time list.

The winning margin tied Ricky Craven’s victory over Kurt Busch at Darlington in 2003 for the closest since the introduction of electronic timing and scoring in 1993.

Jeff Gordon ran third and Earnhardt fourth, as Hendrick drivers claimed three of the top four finishing positions. Kevin Harvick came home fifth, followed by Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Mark Martin, David Gilliland and Joey Logano. Johnson moved into second place in the Sprint Cup standings and trails Edwards by five points after eight races. Earnhardt gained three positions to third in points, 19 behind Edwards.

Talladega marked the fourth eyeblink finish of the season, an incomprehensibly small .002-second margin of victory. And when you add in Daytona (.118 seconds), Fontana (.144) and Martinsville (.727), that’s four races that have been determined by a total of less than one second. If NASCAR was looking to generate more competition, that’s a fairly strong indicator of success.

What drives fans insane about the two-car dance is that it turns a NASCAR race into a crap shoot of physics and positioning. “Talladega has always been about a 15-, 25-lap race, and the rest is just trying to get to the end,” Gordon said after the race. “And that’s basically what we have now. If you want to survive and you want to make it to the finish, you know, you have to either choose to try to push to stay up front, or ride in the back.” Congratulations to Jimmy Johnson! Meanwhile
