“The Hawaiian Punch” Brian Viloria won the WBO Flyweight Championship on Saturday by beating Julio Cesar Miranda of Mexico via unanimous decision. The 30-year old former Olympian dominated the fight from the opening round to claim another world boxing title. This is Viloria’s first title in the flyweight division while Miranda failed in his fourth defense of his belt.

Viloria knocked Miranda down in the first round and went on with vicious body blows in succeeding rounds to earn the nod of the judges. All three judges saw the fight in favor of Viloria with scores of 98-91, 96-93 and 97-93.

Miranda dropped to his knees in the first round from a powerful right to the body by the Hawaiian boxer. The fight ended with Viloria bloodied up but he kept the power-punching former champion at bay from knocking him out.
